Overview

This application prepares professional estimates, invoices, and service agreements for a residential contracting business. All data is stored on the device where the application is used; no information is transmitted or shared.

To get started: complete the Business profile first — the information entered there appears on every document produced.

Document types

E
Estimate — a formal quotation issued before work is performed.
I
Invoice — a bill issued after work is completed, with payment status tracked against it.
A
Agreement — a service contract covering a season or a full year. Includes a scheduled payment plan and signature lines for both parties.

Each document is numbered in the format EST-YYYY-MM-NNN, restarting at 001 each month. All documents are saved automatically under Document history and may be reopened, amended, and reissued at any time.

Pricing methods

Each service on the Price list is billed by one of the following methods:

$
Per visit — a flat rate for a single attendance. Standard for mowing and snow clearing.
H
Per hour — used when scope is uncertain, such as cleanups or weeding. Charged per person: two workers for two hours is billed as four hours.
M
Per month / per season — recurring rate for contracted service. Priced below single-visit work by prior agreement.
+
Add-on / flat — one-time items such as aeration, ice control, or materials.
Two floors to be aware of: the minimum charge is a hard floor — no document totalling less than this figure will be issued. The one-time visit target is a soft prompt — when a single-visit job is priced below it, the main screen displays an advisory notice. The user decides whether to adjust the pricing or proceed. Both values are set on the Price list page.

Measuring a property with Google Maps

Accurate pricing depends on knowing the size of the property. Google Maps provides a free measuring tool that works for lawns, driveways, and walkways:

1
Open Google Maps and enter the customer's address.
2
Switch to Satellite view (the layers button, lower-left corner).
3
Right-click (or long-press on mobile) on one corner of the area to be measured, then select Measure distance.
4
Click each corner in turn to trace the outline of the lawn or driveway. Google Maps displays the total area in square metres or square feet at the bottom of the screen.
Convert the measurement to square feet to match the price list: 2,500 sq ft is roughly the boundary between a small and medium lawn.

Payment plans

Agreements support four payment structures. The one selected determines the schedule printed on the document:

1
Paid in full at signing — the entire amount is collected at the outset. A prepayment discount of 5–10% is standard practice, in exchange for eliminating collection risk.
2
Seasonal instalments — two payments, six months apart. Suited to single-season contracts.
3
Quarterly — three or four payments across the year. A common middle option.
4
Monthly — equal instalments over the term. Convenient for the customer, but requires awareness of the note below.
Note on monthly plans: at any point in a monthly-payment contract, the value of work delivered and the value of payments received will not align. If the customer cancels early, one party may have overpaid or underpaid relative to the work performed. The standard terms include a 30-day notice-of-cancellation clause to address this — it is worth pointing out to the customer at signing.

Contractor commission

When another company refers a customer, the referrer receives a share of the revenue. The application supports three models, selectable in the Business profile:

A
15% on all work. The simplest arrangement. Applied uniformly to one-off jobs and multi-year contracts alike.
B
15% on one-off work, reduced rate on contracts. A more balanced arrangement, particularly on larger contracts.
C
15% on one-off work, flat fee on contracts. A fixed dollar amount per new contract customer. Predictable for both parties.
Recommended practice: commission on a recurring customer should apply to the first term only. After the initial contract renews, the customer is retained on the strength of the work performed, and no further commission is owed to the original referrer. Whichever model is selected, the arrangement should be documented in writing with the referring contractor before the first job is performed.

Materials markup

Any item in the Materials category has a markup applied automatically. This is set in the Business profile under Materials markup. The markup covers the time and cost of sourcing, transporting, and delivering materials, and is a standard practice in the trades.

The typical range is 15% to 30%. On the printed document, the markup is disclosed as part of the line description.

Hosting arrangement

This application is hosted and maintained by 10x Hoster at no cost to the recipient, for the duration of an active working relationship.

1
The application file, the logos, and all associated materials are the property of the recipient, permanently. These remain with the recipient regardless of the status of any working arrangement.
2
Complimentary hosting is contingent on the ongoing working relationship. If that relationship ends, the recipient retains full ownership of the application and may host it independently through any web provider.

To arrange independent hosting, contact 10x Hoster and the application will be removed from their servers.

Reporting a problem

If the application misbehaves or a feature does not work as expected, select Report a bug from the menu. This opens a pre-addressed email; a brief description of what happened is sufficient.
